In Memory of Susan Denise Atkins-Whitehouse
Darkest of Times
As we learned earlier,
Susan taught us about the prison's "property matrix",
and how it affected her, and the other inmates.

In Susan's writings,
Susan often shared with us how Scripture
illuminated her darkest of times.

Susan told us
"The Word of God contains encouragement for absolutely every
situation in human affairs.
I am consistently amazed by the Holy Spirit's ability
to bring to my heart exactly what I need from the
Word of God when I need it the most.
Last week, while I was sitting outside enjoying
a bit of fresh air, and Praising God
for granting me the grace to pack up nearly 30 years of memories
with a joyful heart and soul,
a sister in the Lord brought me a copy of the
following verse of scripture to me;

'But be ever mindful of the days gone by which,
after you were first spiritually enlightened,
you endured a great and painful struggle.
Sometimes being yourselves a gazingstock,
publicly exposed to insults and abuse and distress,
and sometimes claiming fellowship and making common cause
with others who were so treated.
For you did sympathize and suffer along with those
who were imprisoned and you bore cheerfully the plundering
of your belongings and the confiscation of your property,
in the knowledge and consciousness that
you yourself had a better and lasting possession.'
Hebrews 10:32-34"

Isn't that magnificent!
