In Memory of Susan Denise Atkins-Whitehouse
Understatement of the Century
In Susan's works,
she told of her early experiences;
"...By the time I reached the third grade
I was the best shoplifter in the neighborhood.
I had a strong reputation among all the kids,
and that put me at the center of our loosely structured gang.
If anyone needed clothes for her dolls,
I could get them for nothing at the five and ten cent store.
And I moved on to
small items of clothing and accessories.
But I left the gum, candy, and sodapop
for the boys in the gang.
They took care of the heavier things
for our after-school parties.
I maintained mostly A's in school until the fifth grade,
and then my downhill slide began..."
The understatement of the century...
