In Memory of Susan Denise Atkins-Whitehouse
Vomit City
Another movie to choke on-
Why?
The brilliant people who create our movies
have new and interesting stories to tell us all the time -
Why do some keep returning to the horrific events of 1969?
Over and over and over again.
What's new? What's interesting?
What's new is it seems to be getting further away from the truth
with each pass, and it serves no one.
It's not poetic license,
it's Vomit City.
There were sickening events in 1969-
Lives were lost-
Lives were ruined.
By constantly revisiting this tragedy,
it glamorizes those who should not be,
and disturbs and upsets the lives of those who have lost.
Why the necessity to do that?
We know what happened,
and our children can find the history.
It's hard enough to remember without crying,
then be presented to us as someone's idea of entertainment,
again.
It becomes especially harsh
when it's something as low as a money making venture,
and is insensitive and disrespectful to those who suffer the most.
We know it's not intentional,
we make no accusations.
It's time it is put to rest.
Let the families of the lost live in peace.
Let those involved heal, and find their peace.
We have been given the gift of imagination,
which could be used to a more productive end.
If the movie makers are bent on 1969,
perhaps they could head to the east coast,
to a farm in New York State,
where beautiful music filled the summer air,
and thousands of people celebrated
peace and music for 3 days.
Take us back to that time, anytime.
As Susan herself said in regard to the horrible events she was involved in;
"...it is neither amazing or interesting."
