In Memory of Susan Denise Atkins-Whitehouse
Susan and the Deputy D.A.
During Susan's 1993 parole hearing,
one of the Board of Prison Terms commissioners
was discussing with Susan minor infractions she had incurred
since her last parole hearing.
What transpired is interesting.
Susan is seated at the table,
just about facing us, slightly angled.
Seated to Susan's right is her attorney.
Across the table from them are the
3 Board of Prison Terms commissioners.
Of the 3 BPT commissioners, the lead commissioner is seated to the left.
To the left of the commissioners, seated facing Susan,
her attorney, and the BPT commissioners,
are the Los Angeles County Deputy District Attorney, and others.
Susan is visible in this scene, as is her attorney,
and the presiding BPT commissioner,
but it is the middle BPT commissioner who is questioning Susan at this time.

Here is what transpired;
Commissioner: "...So those are the only violations that you have in your file
since your last hearing date..."
(The Deputy District Attorney interrupts the commissioner)
Deputy D.A: (heard but not seen) "Excuse me..."
At this moment, Susan and her attorney turn their heads to the
Deputy District Attorney, and the lead commissioner looks up
from his paperwork towards the Deputy D.A.
It's amusing how Susan, her attorney, and the lead commissioner
move in unison to look at the Deputy District Attorney.
The camera pans to the left to bring the Deputy D.A. onto the screen,
and the other 3 are out of the shot at the moment.
Deputy D.A. "I have in my file 2 other 128's that she had (indiscernible)
documentation (indiscernible, as the
Deputy District Attorney
is looking through his paperwork)
one was uh, she received a 128 for actions
in the visiting room on 7-27-92..."
(Susan interrupts the Deputy D.A....)
Susan: "Excuse me..."
(The Deputy District Attorney stops speaking and looks up at Susan,
and as the camera pans back to Susan,
Susan's attorney is looking intensely at her.
Susan is speaking directly to the Deputy District Attorney...)
since your last hearing date..."

Susan: "That has been removed from my C file per an appeal?"
Deputy D.A: "Well that wasn't removed from my file"
(camera zooms in on Susan)
Susan: "Well it is removed"
Lead Commissioner: (speaking to Susan) "Hang on hang on hang on"
(speaking to Deputy D.A.) "Hold off on your comments
until we get finished with this thing"
Deputy D.A: "Okay"
Commissioner: "I'm going what is now currently in the C file
(at this moment, for a split second,
Susan shoots a "look" at the Deputy District Attorney)
and what we also have in our chronological report,
2 separate things"
Susan: "I know..."
Commissioner: "And there are no further..."
Susan: "I know..."
Commissioner: "disciplinary violations listed that we have before us"
home
