"All three female defendants have expressed remorse for their crimes,
been exemplary inmates, and offered their time for charity work. 
Yet none has been released by the California Parole Board,
​ even though each of them was young
and clearly under Manson's powerful influence
​ at the time of their crimes.

There is no question that but for their
​ unfortunate connection with Charles Manson,
none would have committed murder.
It is sad,
​ but undoubtedly true,
that parole boards are political bodies
that base decisions as much upon
anticipated public reaction to their decisions
​as on a careful review of a parole applicant's prison record and statements"
