In Memory of Susan Denise Atkins-Whitehouse
Wise Words Sometimes Fall
In Susan's works
The Dove's Nest Newsletters A Collection of Christian Newsletters
by Susan Atkins-Whitehouse,
Susan tells us that as of July/August 2001,
she had written her 50th Christian newsletter;
"...While reviewing the records of this monthly letter ministry,
I noticed that as of this letter,
I've written fifty (50!) letters since September 1996.
It is my hope that the Lord has used these letters
in your life, to assist you in your own growth,
ministry, and as encouragement to your heart.
It has been a joy to my heart to go before the Lord
and seek His face, to hear from Him what it is that
I should share with you.
Recently I've been impressed that I have a responsibility
to be a good steward of what He has blessed me with..."

Later on in her letter, Susan tells us that
"Since the beginning of this year there has been a tremendous effort
put forth by many of your Christian sisters here behind these walls,
to put together another Gospel Fest outreach program
for the prison main-line population.
Every year that the administration of the prison
lets women here do this,
we reap a large harvest of souls..."
"...It is my personal prayer and hope that through Gospel Fests
like this, here in this prison, every woman who comes into
this prison will see in the lives
of the Body of Christ residents here,
that there is hope for them too.

I am also praying that the Administration of this Prison
will awaken to the reality that crime prevention
begins with heart regeneration.
Punishment as a means of correction has never worked.
Historically it has been proven that punishment fails,
primarily because those who have been empowered to enforce
the punishment are fallible human beings.
Jesus came to give us life, and that more abundantly,
through the process of Grace..."
Susan's examination
reiterates what Susan shared with us
in her 18th letter of April 1998.
Many hear Susan,
but there will always be those who do not,
and that's okay.
Wise words sometimes fall on deaf ears;
hearts and minds can sometimes be hard of hearing as well.

Susan begins the conclusion of her letter;
"I covet your prayers for the outcome of this Gospel Fest.
that many will come to repentance,
many will accept Jesus as their Savior,
many backslidden will renew their commitment
to Jesus and make Him Lord,
that the process of renewing the mind
by the Word of God will become
a reality in the lives of my fellow prisoners,
so the Lord can lead them out
of these prison walls,
restore them to their families,
their children, their husbands, their community,
and so they will be able to carry the message of hope contained
in the Gospel to others outside these prison walls..."
