In Memory of Susan Denise Atkins-Whitehouse
Susan's Son
Susan had a son in 1968.
When Susan was convicted,
her parental rights were terminated.
Susan's son was legally taken away from her,
and there was not a damn thing she could do about it.
Susan never saw her son again.
There was no one in Susan's family
who was willing to care for her son.
He was adopted by people Susan did not know.
He was given a new name,
and the official records were sealed.
(Meaning he cannot be traced).
The family who adopted him named him Paul.
Susan was made aware of this.
Susan liked the new name he was given.
Susan's son never came forward in her lifetime
for 1 of 2 reasons;
Either he didn't know,
or,
he was told,
and didn't want to know.
Was Susan's son ever told who his mother was?
It's likely we will never know
since he didn't come forward (had he known), for Susan's sake.
Why would he bother now.
Susan's son was kept away from all that was Susan's life,
and Susan was able to find some comfort in that in later years.
A mother lost her son because of tragic mistakes
she made early in her life.
Susan had to live with that every day for the rest of her life,
along with the other fond memories she had to live with
every day for the rest of her life.
If you have children, you should tell them
right now how much you love them.
This chapter was especially difficult for us...
